Recently, I was driving to an event and noticed a car pull into an acceleration lane all the way to the end and stop. As I shook my head, I realized that drivers who speed into that lane without a plan for merging into traffic are just like I was two and a half years ago when I jumped into blogging. I had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted to accomplish. Over time, my personal blog has evolved into something that I'm comfortable with, but the time I've spent making radical changes has led me to believe that planning is critical.
Having a goal or purpose goes a long way to helping define the steps you take.
I approached building this site much as I do acceleration lanes. I pull up to the intersection and look around to get the lay of the land. Who's out there and where are they coming from? Is the traffic overwhelmingly busy? I relax and wait. Is it steady with just the right size opening? I plan my move and speed ahead, easily merging into traffic.
This blog is just one piece of a journey I started long ago. After spending lots of time reading others' opinions and views about what's going on in this world of social media, I decided to create a place of my own to talk about the ways we're connecting, the tools we're using and the best way to get the most out of them - whatever your purpose.
When you look at all the ways we're connected to each other and the tools we use, it really is a big mesh. But it doesn't have to be a big mess. The tools and strategies of social media are becoming thoroughly interwoven into our daily lives. When these tools are used efficiently, effectively and with purpose it's easy to reap the benefit.
Things will grow and evolve over time, but I hope you'll click the links to the right and join me to share your own thoughts and views as well!
